Lifelong Wakefield Resident Mable McWhinnie Turns 105

Salter HealthCare , one of Massachusetts’s most trusted leaders in rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, today announced that Mable McWhinnie, a resident of their Woburn Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, recently celebrated her 105th birthday. Woburn Mayor, Scott Galvin, all 5 generations of the McWhinnie family and Woburn Rehab staff and residents helped Mable begin another year together with holiday music, cake and gifts.

A lifelong Wakefield resident who was known for walking throughout the town as she never drove, Mable was born at the historic Hartshorne House in Wakefield, the city’s oldest public building, which dates back to 1681. She was married to William “Buzzy” McWhinnie, a popular jazz player, for 42 years after meeting in a local bar. Together they had three children to which Mable was a stay-at-home mom. In their free time they loved to visit Nahant Beach.

Mable has called Woburn Rehabilitation & Nursing Center her home for the last 15 years following a bad fall at home. Today, she is a proud great great grandmother to 8 children, a great grandmother to over 30 and has 11 grandchildren. She attributes her longevity to long walks and not drinking alcohol.
