Every year, the holidays come quickly, and with many tasks that need to be completed by Christmas Day. While you may have things to get done, it is important that you get the appropriate amount of rest during these times.
Adults need between 7 and 8 hours of sleep per night. Combined with working all day, coming home to make dinner and manage food for your family, when you lay your head down at night you should be welcoming the release of sleep. Even if you are only missing a few hours of sleep during the night, this can double your risk for a car accident during the next day.
While you may not feel sleep deprived, your mind isn’t as alert as it could have been with a full nights’ sleep. This sluggishness can put you and your family in danger. If you are in the bracket of adults not getting enough sleep nightly, you are not alone. A recent report from the CDC reported as many as 1/3 of adults getting less than 7 hours of sleep per night.
Sleep is important to many daily functions, as your mind needs rest every night. The more sleep you lose each night, the more likely you are to get into a car accident that involves falling asleep at the wheel, or a situation where you had a slower reaction time.
The holidays are the perfect time to catch up on some much needed rest. Whether your family is spending this time in town or out of it, you will want to be well rested before you sit behind the wheel.
