Salter HealthCare Makes Enhancements At All Three Facilities

WINCHESTER, MA – Salter HealthCare is pleased to announce facility upgrades at their three post-acute rehabilitation and nursing centers. Located in Winchester and Woburn, the facilities also recently received perfect scores on their annual surveys from the Massachusetts Department of Health as well as Five-Star Quality Ratings from the Federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for overall performance in health inspections, nurse staffing, and quality of health care.

Construction is underway on an outdoor physical rehabilitation course at Salter HealthCare’s Aberjona Rehabilitation and Nursing Center located at 184 Swanton Street in Winchester. The new area, the Environmental Challenge Course, will be an outdoor walking course designed with multiple obstacles and balance challenges that simulate different outdoor surfaces and hazards patients may encounter in their re-entry to the community following care at the Aberjona facility. Patients will be able to practice navigating on uneven surfaces including cobblestone, curbing, stairs and various grading surfaces.

“This is essentially an extension of our rehab gym and our very successful Transitions Program, which is designed for patients who are waiting to be discharged from the Center but are not fully ready to live independently again,” said Stephen Buckley, Executive Director at Aberjona Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

“The main objective of the Challenge Course is to prepare patients for transitioning back into their communities while practicing in a controlled environment under the supervision of our rehabilitation team. Our goal is to do whatever we can to help make the transition from our facility to home go as smoothly as possible for our patients,” he added.

The Environmental Challenge Course is expected to open to Aberjona patients this summer.

Salter HealthCare’s Woburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is in the process of getting approval from the Department of Public Health for a completely renovated state-of-the-art rehab gym space at the Center’s 18 Frances Street location. The Winchester Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, located at 223 Swanton Street in Winchester, recently completed renovations to its short-term unit, which included new patient rooms with new electric beds, bedside tables, dressers, wardrobes, and completely remodeled bathrooms. Additionally, rooms were outfitted with complimentary, in-room telephone and television service and WiFi capability.
